NYU Summer Publishing Institute
During the summer of 2019, I was accepted into the New York University Summer Publishing Institute. This graduate program gave me in-depth knowledge on the publishing of both magazines and books. During the program, I worked together with other chosen students to create and present mock-up magazines and publishing companies. I graduated from the program in July, with a better understanding of the publishing industry and how to better navigate it.
CrowdSurfer Magazine
For my magazine group, we created the magazine, CrowdSurfer. CrowdSurfer focused on music festivals and being the first line of communication for the music "festies." My role in the group was to create content articles that would be found in the magazine. Our group would go to placed second out eight different magazine groups in terms of quality and content.
Half-Moon Press YA Imprint
For my book publishing group, we created the YA imprint, Half-Moon Press. Half-Moon Press was an imprint that focused on empowering readers through a feminist lens and focusing on character representation from different ethnic backgrounds and from the LGBT community. My role in the group was to create one of the book covers for the imprint. The design I made was the Heart to Heart cover. Our group was praised for our creativity and the strong choices in representation and focus in storytelling.
